In the following days, Ranni returns to her search for what she requires, though she keeps an ear out for any stray word of the Tarnished.
Blaidd is ever on the move, and many travelers speak idly to Iji at his forge, so it's not long before word reaches her that Anatasia has reached the Roundtable Hold, and later defeated Margit. Ranni greets the news with a little hmm, and for all that Blaidd eyes her expectantly, she gives nothing more than that. The path of the Tarnished is clear; she will likely make her way through Stormveil Castle, and will meet Godrick in the days to come, which will be the first true test of her strength.
If she proves victorious... she may be of some use.
For now, she is as any of the Tarnished are: lost, with the potential to be strong, but one of many. Only time will tell if Anatasia grows to have the might of Vyke, or others before him that came agonizingly close to their goal. Only time will tell if Anastasia will be smarter than the man who fell to the lure of the yellow flame of frenzy.
One night, as Ranni idly contemplates an ancient book held before her in her tower, she gazes out the narrow window to the frozen stars beyond, and thinks of Anastasia once more. It's a simple matter to step through space and into Stormveil Castle; the tattered hem of Ranni's long dress brushed over the swords of fallen soldiers and blood spattered stone as she walks, taking in the path of destruction that the Tarnished has wrought, the cawing of a lone crow accompanying her.
She finds Anastasia by a flicker of grace, in a crumbling room.
"To have bested the Fell Omen is no small task," she greets. "You have found your mission, it seems."
